Is Lucifer Really Satan?: That’s Not What The Scriptures Saith!

By: Bill the Torontonian

One of the ‘sacred cows’ that many Christians have fallen for and believe is the fallacy that Lucifer is Satan. This myth is perpetuated and parroted by Christians despite having no legs to stand on in the scriptures. As I once did, they have bought hook, line and sinker into believing that Lucifer is just another name for Satan, and that they are one in and the same person. This engrained belief in the minds of many Christians could be dispelled if one would simply take the time to study the Holy Bible and allow the Holy Spirit to teach them.

Think about this, the name Lucifer appears in the Bible only once in the book of Isaiah and somehow from this one passage we have a built a doctrine-belief that Lucifer is Satan, though in reality, the passage clearly states that Lucifer is really a MAN.
Isaiah 14:12-16

If you don’t believe me read the verses in question below and see what the word teaches, as opposed to what man is teaching:

Isaiah 14:12   How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Isaiah 14:13   For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Isaiah 14:14   I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Isaiah 14:15   Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

  Isaiah 14:16   They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

There you have it, the above scriptures clearly reveal that Lucifer is a ‘man’ and not a cherub as Satan is described as being in Ezekiel 28.  Since when is Satan every described as being a man anyways? Answer, he’s not, because he is not a man, he is a fallen cherub.
I will ascend into heaven”
Also, have you ever thought about how when Lucifer declares his prideful intention of “I will ascend into heaven” how this is not really a boast if it is actually Satan? Think about it, Satan, the once covering cherub, still has access to heaven till this day. He wasn’t cast from heaven in the days of the garden of Eden (as some Christians erroneously believe he was). For proof of this, simply read the book of Job, chapters 1 and 2 and the book of Revelation chapter 12.

Satan has yet to be thrown down from heaven to earth, as this won’t happen until that yet future war in heaven between himself and his angels and Michael and his angels that will kick start the great tribulation lasting 1260 days, or 3.5 years or a time, times, and half a time.

The “I will ascend into heaven” intention from Lucifer only makes sense as being a boastful claim, if it is understood from the viewpoint of a mere mortal, of a man down here on earth, making the huge boast to go up to heaven. Remember, the Holy Bible teaches us that flesh and blood cannot ascend up to heaven. And so Lucifer’s claim, as seen in this light, is truly an arrogant, foolish statement.

Now when this claim is falsely attributed to Satan, Satan wouldn’t really be saying anything boastful at all, for he has already been granted that ability to ascend into heaven...for now.
Capernaum, the Tower of Babel and Lucifer
I found this scripture recently in my daily Bible reading and thought that it is also relevant to the discussion. It’s from the book of Matthew:

Matthew 11:23   And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

Here we have the occupants of a city on earth in the days when God, when Jesus walked on the earth, exalting itself unto heaven and being prophesied to be brought down to hell, which brings my mind back to Isaiah 14 and also to Genesis Chapter 11 and Nimrod and tower of Babel incident:

Genesis 11:4   And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

There are some parallels in all of these three accounts of earthly prideful men looking up and boasting to exalt themselves to heaven, whereupon our righteous Lord executes his righteous judgement.
The Actual Names of Our Adversary
I will (pardon the pun) throw this out to you as well to chew on: in the book of Revelation Chapters 12 and 20, the King James Bible gives us a list of the most common names for our adversary:

Revelation 12:9   And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Revelation 20:2   And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

Now if Lucifer is Satan, you would think that this could have been a perfect time for the Holy Spirit to have moved the beloved apostle John to include the name Lucifer in the list of names given to our chief antagonist. But we clearly see that the name Lucifer is nowhere to be found in these two verses in the book of Revelation, as I have hopefully shown through the scriptures, for Lucifer and Satan are two different persons.

In forthcoming articles we will explore who then is this mysterious Lucifer character anyways.
